Natalie Joy's Musings

4/22/2005

I have made a decision... well, sort of.

I have finally chosen my four potential plays, one of which will become my final directorial piece of my M.F.A. Now, anyone who reads this is getting fairly privileged information as I haven't even submitted this to my professors yet. However, I could always use some opinions and advice... feel free to tell me how insane I am. I don't get to choose which play I direct, but I do get to make my case for each play of interest.

So, here they are:
Romeo and Juliet - Shakespeare
Hamlet - Shakespeare
Mouchoir de Nuages - Tristan Tzara
Criminal Genius - George F. Walker

The odd thing is that I'll probably be directing a translation instead of the English language text... more info on why that is once the "deal" has gone through. Let's just say a very interesting proposal has been presented to me...

So, how crazy am I for putting two Shakespeares on my list... and wanting to direct them in French no less?

Come on people... I can take the criticism! as long as it's said with nice complementary words which will make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside

It terrifies me to think that, by this time next year, I will have directed one of those plays. Oh, by the way, for me "terrifies" = excites, nauseates, intrigues, stimulates, etc.

Now all I need to do is finish my report, submit it to my professors and wait for the outcome... Canadian black comedy, Dada breaking of conventions or one of two done-to-death classic tales?
