A sobering thought
Stewart woke me up this morning with some news that shook me up. We got an email from our English friend from touring last year, Nina Battley, telling us that she won't be able to attend the wedding because she's undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia. She was just diagnosed last week and will be in and out of the hospital for the next 6 months.
Here I am, complaining about pimples and wedding plans, and there's a good friend of mine suffering from a horrible disease across the ocean. Really puts things into perspective.
I don't really know what else to say right now. I had intended on writing a spirited blog post about her but I'm just too down to do it right now... I just hope she gets better.

Amen. Sobering, indeed. In the face of such stories, everything else seems superficial. Right now, the most popular story on CNN.com is "California mom wins Mrs. America pagaent"; right now, E! Now is relieved to hear that George Clooney is not hosting Brad and Angelina's wedding... and right now, a friend is fighting cancer. There's nothing like the perspective that kind of thing gives you, and there's nothing like the perspective it gives you when that same person demonstrates her courage by, first, being willing to talk about it, and second -- surviving it.
