Natalie Joy's Musings

I'm a lucky girl

Last Saturday was one of the best days of my life. My best friend Dalelle threw me what would surely be considered one of the best bridal showers in all of existence. It was a lovely day of girly chatter, spiked punch, little sandwiches and chocolate cake with my photo laser-printed on it.

Dalelle and Stewart had been having periodic secret meetings. I wasn't allowed to know exactly what they were doing, but I knew it had to do with the shower. It turns out that they were writing a show for the event. They combined the music, blocking and choreography of How Nous Avons Met, the lines from a 52 Pick-up scene, the bell sound effect from Sure Thing with the story of how Stewart and I got together. The intertextualisation was amazing. I couldn't believe how well they combined three shows that I had worked on into one adorable skit.

Then, one of Stewart's threats actually became a promise... there was a stripper!!! Pier, Dalelle's partner and good friend of mine, did an absolutely hilarious strip tease in his clown character to "Bad to the Bone" and "I'm too sexy". I'm was crying I laughed so hard.

Then, I almost broke my arm (and did break my dad's plastic broom) trying to open a sun-shaped pinata hung in the garage... and filled with candy and other toys (not for children).

I got some incredible gifts... I have such generous friends and family. I think my favorite of all (and is the least shower-oriented gift) is a lantern for camping... my sister is so cool! Laura, my old roommate from university, came down from Peterborough (on a day trip!) with her mom... I hadn't seen her in two years. My godmother and aunt Susanne came down from Ottawa with her daughter Stephanie... I hadn't seen them in ages either. Lib, a professor and mentor of mine, drove down from Montreal. So many people that I didn't expect to see were in attendance. It made me feel very fortunate.

I'll post some pictures once I get them... because some of what I just described needs to be seen to be truly believed.
