No longer the new kid in town
I had my first day of school of the last year of my student life today. I went in for a meeting with my final play advisor, Daniel Mroz... I had loads of questions for him, after reading a chapter of his doctoral thesis and watching 4 hours of Polish physical theatre DVDs, but when I sat down in front of him, nothing came out. For some reason, all of the clear thoughts and ideas I had in my head when I left the house vanished as soon as I sat down in front of him. ... and then I thought "This is NOT a good start to the year."
Another moment that scared me was the 5 minute time before my meeting. I saw at least 30 students running around the building... they all smiled at me... many of them stopped to ask me how my summer was... but could I, for the life of me, remember any of their names?!?!? I don't understand it! Now, I've never been particularly good with names, but I've never been this bad. I had better short term memory when I was smoking pot regularly! I was probably a lot less bitchy too.
Nonetheless, there's something quite exciting about the first day of school. It's a beautiful fall day. I'm looking forward to my classes. My brain is working hard on my two productions. And it's my last year of school! Well, famous last words. How much do you want to bet that I'll be back in school taking something like business or accounting within the next five years... or better yet, getting my teaching degree like everyone tells me I should!
The producer in me is also still alive and somewhat well. After the success of the 52 Pick-up encore, I'm wondering if Stewart and I should follow the advice of many Fringe friends and take the show on the road next summer. However, there are three huge roadblocks in the way right now:
1) I might not be finished school until the end of the summer.
2) We still don't know what Stewart's immigration status will be. Chances are we'll have an idea by February 2006, but everything is still up in the air right now.
3) We're poor! It costs a lot of money to do the Fringe tour and still maintain an apartment and loans.
The CAFF lottery is open now and accepting applications until the end of October. It's worth a shot, considering my chances of winning the tour lottery are slim... but then how can I afford it with a wedding, tuition and immigration to pay for all in the same month?
As a side note, Stewart now has a part-time job at Tommy Hilfiger in the Rideau Centre... it's WAY more preppy than he's used to, but he seems to enjoy the staff and the work atmosphere. Feel free to stop by and say hello to him, though don't try to get a discount off of him. He's doesn't really have one! (at least not for anyone who isn't his wife anyway... wow, I am bitchy today!)
Anywho, I think I've procrastinated enough now. I should get back to work. I have my first physical theatre class at 2:30... we'll be 30 students in a room the size of large bedroom... should be interesting.
And now I will end my post with an artsy 52 Pick-up photo by Petr Maur... pretty.
