I miss high school!
Do you remember the days when you yearned for the final bell to ring on the last day of school, knowing you could forget about homework for a while, run out into the sunshine with an empty backpack and a weight lifted off your shoulders? Well, last Wednesday was the last class day of the first year of my MFA. Todd, my partner-in-academic-crime, and I congratulated each other with the minimal energy we had and waved goodbye as we both headed home (not) looking forward to correcting thousands of essays, reading billions of plays and unsuccessfully attempting to accomplish our daily chores such as eating and sleeping. I thought the stereotype of the sleepless, malnourished graduate student was just that, a stereotype - one that didn't fit the real world. Well, I was wrong. Now, I know I don't fit that stereotype because I'm choosing to priorities my health over my studies... but I've been struggling for months now to balance the two and it's not easy... 1) because I'm a perfectionist and 2) because there are just not enough hours in a day. (See one of my past posts for confirmation of this!)
All in all, I've enjoyed my first year of graduate studies... masochistic as it is. And I am looking forward to my summer when I can tour my lovely country, see some stimulating theatre, catch up on some serious reading and replenish my stores of creative energy. (Believe me... I have none right now! You have no idea how many times I wrote the words "YES" and "GOOD" while correcting student's journals today!)
Here's a little update on tour preparations:
- We're still accepting boys and/or men to audition for ICARUS this coming week. Email me at nataliejoy@enigmaproductions.info if you're interested.
- Stewart and I only have one more rehearsal for 52 Pick-up before I leave for Sudbury to stage manage Testament du couturier for Théâtre la Catapulte. I'll be there for two whole weeks of tech-hell goodness. It's the second tour of this show that I was the assistant-director and stage manager for... so I know it pretty well. It's still intimidating to remind myself that I have over 400 cues to call and/or run myself. Hopefully all will go smoothly... and I'll actually have time to do some tour administration stuff too! That is, if I can find an internet connection....
That's about it for now. Sorry it took me so long to blog... and I apologize in advance if I don't blog for a while again. It's not that I don't love you guys... it's just that I love myself more! (teehee)
Until next time,
NjQ

Hey Sweetie,
Those of us still in high school cant really relate to how you are feeling right now, but yet are still waiting for this real world that you dread some days so much.
Just hang in there you are doing great. Much love to you and that guy you know ;)

I miss kindergarden. I used to hate naptime, and nowadays I think that nothing could be better.
Oh how wise we become when we age!
Have fun in Sudbury!!!

Oooh... naptime!!! Nancy - you got me so excited! The thought of naptime is so luxurious (keep in mind that sleeping in til 8:30am is a stretch for me right now).
Ally - so good to hear from you. Love you too!
